WCCO Radio hires former TV presenter Vineeta Sawkar to replace Dave Lee as morning host

After extensive research, WCCO Radio hired a new morning host to replace the legendary Dave Lee.

Vineeta Sawkar, a former TV presenter on KSTP, Channel 5, will debut on January 3. Her show, “The Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar”, will air weekdays from 6 am to 9 am.

“I am truly touched, honored and excited,” Sawkar said in a statement. “No one can replace Dave Lee. He’s a broadcasting legend and a friend too.”

Lee retired in April after 32 years as a morning host.

“This station is so rich in history and memories for many of us,” Sawkar said. “I hope the ‘Good Neighbor’ station you tuned into in the morning for school closings is where you can keep listening to the news and information to start your day… with fun, too.”

After joining KSTP in 1995, Sawkar spent almost 18 years at the ABC affiliate as a reporter and presenter on weekends and mornings. She worked as a video reporter for the Star Tribune and is currently Director of Public Relations at the University of St. Thomas. She is an ambassador for the Minnesota Wild’s Hockey Is for Me initiative to attract children of color to the sport.

In a statement, Brad Lane, WCCO Brand Manager, praised the new recruit. “Her rich background, journalistic integrity and warm personality make her the perfect choice to evolve our station’s long-standing tradition of broadcasting the biggest headlines in the morning while exploring the news and events that matter. more for the Minnesotans. “
