Actor Viggo Mortensen reacted to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series The Rings of Power, saying it would be “fun to see”, although he wasn’t sure what it was.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen was asked what he thought of the show, and Mortensen started by wondering what the show was and if it was made for Apple.
“What is it? The TV thing? Is it with Apple, or something?” he said.
After being reminded that the show was made for Amazon, Mortensen said he would watch it, but wondered what source material was used. We don’t know the answer for sure, but the show is made in partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises and the Tolkien Estate, and it’s set in the Second Age, long before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. .
The series might actually have a strong connection to Mortensen, who played Aragorn, as his ancestor Isildur would be a main character.
“Oh it’s cool!” he said Isildur might show up. “Yeah, that will be fun to see.
Mortensen is just the latest star of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series to react to the Amazon TV series. Before that, Samwise Gamgee actor Sean Astin said the trailer gave him chills. Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, said it was “very weird” that Amazon called it Lord of the Rings.
The Amazon series premieres September 2 on Prime Video; shortly after HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, arrives on HBO Max.
In other Lord of the Rings news, Astin’s father John Astin revealed he auditioned for the role of Gandalf.
As for the video game series, The Lord of the Rings Online recently saw a huge surge in player numbers thanks in part to the game’s 15th anniversary event. Additionally, Electronic Arts just announced that it has signed a new contract with Middle-earth Enterprises to create a game called The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth.
