Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth retires at 67


American singer-songwriter David Lee Roth reveals he is bidding farewell to his decades-long successful music career and wants the world to know it.

In a recent phone interview with Review-Journal, rock superstar David Lee Roth announced his intention to retire. He told the newspaper:

“I’m putting myself in my shoes. I’m retiring. This is the first and only official announcement… You have the news. Share it with the world.”

In addition to the news, Roth shared that he is ending his Van Halen era with the next five shows at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. The shows will take place the first week of January 2022.

The Indiana native quickly added that he would not explain the statement by saying that the upcoming performances are indeed his last five shows.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 9. Roth revealed that he spoke with fellow drummer and rock band co-founder Alex Van Halen.

He revealed during the interview that Van Halen was already aware of his retirement announcement while also revealing that they talk to each other two to three times a day.

Roth, the lead singer, toured with the band all summer. He joined the group in 2006 after a break of over twenty years.

The former radio personality has said the performances at the House of Blues will be the original Van Halen’s last gathering.

Roth said he gave the fans his all and it was an amazing, great race with no regrets.


While there, he also spoke about the passing of his bandmate Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer at the age of 65 a year ago and called him a fellow bandmate of beloved class.

Roth said he’s encouraged and compelled to understand how short life is, while adding that his time is likely even more temporary.

The flamboyant artist will be celebrating his 67th birthday on October 10, 2021. Roth said he gave his all to the fans and it was an amazing and great race, with no regrets.

He was known as Diamond Dave during the band’s heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, when the quartet released hits such as “Dance the Night Away”.
