The quality of tourism businesses across the county will be recognized this year at the first Croeso Awards. Hosted by Visit Pembrokeshire, the awards will be hosted by highly respected television and radio personality Jason Mohammad.

After a turbulent time in recent years, Pembrokeshire tourism providers are once again welcoming visitors keen to experience the delights of the county for the first time and those for whom Pembrokeshire is a place to return to to relax and unwind.

Registration for the awards is open now via the website www.visitpembrokeshire.com/croeso-awards until midnight July 8th. The rewards are FREE to participate, and businesses are encouraged to participate in a number of eligible categories.

The awards dinner will take place at the Crug Glas Country House, St. Davids on October 20.

Jane Rees Baynes, Chair of Visit Pembrokeshire, said:

Visit Pembrokeshire is the county’s official Destination Management Organization (DMO). It is a commercial-led public/private partnership and the first of its kind in Wales. We have an ambitious plan to develop tourism sustainably over the next five years in a way that will benefit our communities.

Following the unprecedented disruption to everyone’s lives caused by Covid, we are delighted to launch the first Croeso Awards which will celebrate the best tourism and hospitality businesses across the county.

Jason Mohammad is currently featured on long-running BBC1 football show Final Score. On Radio 2 he hosts Good Morning Sunday and The Jason Mohammad Show airs weekdays on BBC Radio Wales.

Born in Cardiff, Jason is fluent in Welsh and has also hosted many major televised sporting events on BBC channels including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, World Cup, Billiards, Rugby and Athletics. He is also a co-host of Crimewatch and his acting credits include more than one episode of Dr Who!

Late 2021 saw the launch of the Jason Mohammad Academy in Cardiff and Vale College for young people looking for a career in broadcasting and film – huge areas of growth for the Welsh economy and helping to address the current skills shortages in the creative industries.

Emma Thornton, CEO of Visit Pembrokeshire, said:

As a passionate Wales Ambassador, Jason is the perfect choice of presenter for our inaugural Croeso Awards and we are absolutely delighted he has agreed to take part. His laid back, humorous and engaging style will undoubtedly make the evening a fantastic success.

A panel of independent judges will select the finalists in twelve categories, including the ‘Regenerative Tourism’ category sponsored by Ty Milford Waterfront which is part of The Celtic Collection.

Celtic Collection Managing Director Ian Edwards said:

From the moment we started the construction project to create the amazing new Tŷ Hotel in Milford Waterfront, we couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome from the local community and our colleagues and partners at the tourism industry. This support has been crucial to the highly successful launch of the hotel, so we are delighted to help celebrate the best in tourism across the region by sponsoring Visit Pembrokeshire’s Croeso Awards. We are particularly pleased to sponsor the Regenerative Tourism category, as the Tŷ Hotel is the latest addition to what has been a fantastic rejuvenation and redevelopment of Milford’s seafront, led by the port of Milford Haven.
