Oscars producers reportedly seek multiple hosts for multi-part awards show | Connect FM | Local news radio

While the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is still officially mum, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Oscar producers plan to host a March 27 TV show that would be very different from its predecessors.

In what he described as a “Multi-Host Palooza”, the trade reveals that the 94th Annual Awards will feature multiple hosts, with each host leading an hour-long portion of the telecast.

It is believed that the variation in hosts would not only broaden the demographic appeal of the recently contested broadcast, but would also serve to relieve the pressure of a singular emcee, long considered a high-profile, but potentially thankless job.

This year’s event will be the first with an official host since jimmy kimmel left the stage in 2018. The telecast went hostless in 2019 and saw a boost in ratings, but last year’s equally hostless event handled the worst Oscars audience of around 10 million people.

In comparison, the 2004 telecast, which saw peter jacksonThe Triumph of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King drew 46 million viewers.

The 94th Academy Awards will air live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET on March 27 from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, marking the awards ceremony’s return to the traditional Oscars venue following the limited COVID event. from last year at Union Station in Los Angeles.
