LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska Athletics/KLKN) — Nebraska’s bowling team will host its home tournament of the 2021-22 season this weekend. The event takes place from Friday, February 25 through Sunday, February 27 at the Hollywood Bowl.
The tournament will feature six of the top 25 teams ranked by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA). The nine total teams competing include No. 1 McKendree, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 7 Arkansas St., No. 9 Youngstown St., No. 22 Wisconsin Whitewater, No. 25 Central Missouri, Prairie View A&M and Quincy.
This year will mark the debut of the Nebraska bowling team on Big Ten Network (BTN). The broadcast will be live on Sunday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
“Every year the Big Red Invitational is an important and fun week for our team and the fans,” said head coach Klempa. “But this year with the added element of live television it will certainly be even more exciting. We always have good crowds of people there to support the team and this year that will probably be even more so. I expect big crowds for all three days, including the Big Ten Network’s live broadcast of our final game on Sunday. The team loves to perform in front of the crowd and their energy fuels us throughout the weekend. This is our only home event of the season and we appreciate the fan support that comes with playing Lincoln.
The Huskers will start Baker-style play Friday at 9 a.m. They’ll start the day with a bye, followed by a matchup against Quincy. After that, NU will face No. 25 Central Missouri, then Prairie View A&M. Nebraska will end the day with a final game against No. 9 Youngstown St.
The event resumes Saturday morning at 9:10 a.m. with traditional-style matches. After a positional round, the Huskers will face No. 22 Wisconsin Whitewater, Valparaiso, and No. 7 Arkansas St. NU will end the day against top-ranked McKendree.
Sunday’s program will be based on the combined results of Friday and Saturday. The teams will face off in a best of seven Baker-style matches and the tournament title will go to the team with the highest per-game average.
“The team is coming off an extremely dominant performance in Arkansas last weekend and we are looking to continue that dominance at home this weekend. If we can, it will be a fun show for the fans,” said said Klempa.
