Memorial High School Hosts 30th Annual Winterfest Choir Competition

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) — Eau Claire Memorial High School is hosting its annual Winterfest Show choir competition this Saturday.

In its 30th anniversary, Memorial will host nearly two dozen schools to see who is the best in the show.

“There are 18 other schools from all over Wisconsin and Minnesota and so they come here that day to compete,” Memorial Choir Director Aurora Krajnikconde said.

Since the school is hosting, Krajnikconde says Memorial can’t actually compete. Instead, they will play while the judges tally the score.

“We have five songs on our show,” Kranjniconde said. “Since we are holding this contest, we are not doing a competition, we are just an exhibition that we perform at the end of the evening.”

Senior Ethen Loasching is a member of the Memorial Choir.

“I think this is one of the most defining milestones of my high school career,” Loasching said.

Loasching says Winterfest is something he looks forward to all year.

“Winterfest is such a fun experience, it’s really exhilarating. There are a lot of bands coming,” Loasching said. “A lot of different people across Wisconsin and Minnesota and a lot of different backgrounds and different show choirs do different things and so it’s really interesting to see the difference between what we do at Memorial versus what can -be Bloomington.”

Fellow senior Kaitlyn Romack feels the same way.

“It’s amazing,” Romack said. “The energy of all the bands when they perform and even when they’re just in the classrooms talking, you can see their connection, just like we have in our show choir.”

Romack says it’s amazing to see all the teams performing at their best on stage.

“It’s so exciting because you see all these different communities coming together and sharing one thing that we all love, which is the show choir,” Romack said.

As a former Memorial Show choir student, Krajnikconde says Winterfest was one of her favorite memories at school. She says she is delighted to be able to continue.

“I am happy to be able to be here and give this opportunity back to my students,” said Krajnikconde.

Because as the saying goes, the show goes on a lot.

Winterfest is this Saturday at Memorial High School with doors opening at 8 a.m.

Tickets can be purchased online, here. Adult tickets are $20 and students $10.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door for an additional $5.
