Marc Menchaca Joins Apple TV+ Series ‘The Big Cigar’ – Deadline


EXCLUSIVE: Marc Menchaca (ozark) signed on to star alongside André Holland, Don Cheadle, Alessandro Nivola and Tiffany Boone in the six-episode limited series The big cigarcentered on Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton (Holland), for Apple TV+.

The series based on the eponymous Playboy magazine article by Joshuah Bearman (Argo) tells the extraordinary, hilarious and almost too good to be true story of how Newton leaned on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola), the Hollywood producer behind Easy Riderto evade a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.

Menchaca is set for the series regular role of Agent Sydney Clark. A former Vietnamese lawyer and veterinarian from Oklahoma, Clark lives undercover as a filthy hippie while pursuing Newton, who is wanted for killing a teenage prostitute.

Janine Sherman Barrois, winner of the NAACP Image Award (Claws, The Kings of Napa) serves as The big cigarthe showrunner. Jim Hecht (Buying Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) wrote the first episode of the series, with Cheadle directing and executive producing the first two. The show comes from Warner Bros. Television, where Barrois and his folding chair productions are under an overall agreement. Barrois and Hecht are executive producers alongside Bearman, Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector (Little America) through their production company Epic, a division of Vox Media Studios.

Menchaca is best known for his stage-stealing tricks as Jack Hoskins on the hit HBO series the strangerand as Russ Langmore in the Emmy Award-winning Netflix drama series ozark. The actor will next be seen in Tom Clancy’s Jack RyanHBO miniseries The White House PlumbersJohn Hyams thriller Sick and the sci-fi pic of Gareth Edwards True love for New Regency. Additional TV credits include black mirror, Country, MacGyver, Blue blood, Chicago PD, sleepy hollow, The black list, Law and Order: SVU, ITUC and Law & Order: criminal intent.
