JQH Arena officials encourage masks at Alan Jackson concert

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Thousands of fans will fill the stands at JQH Arena on Saturday night for the Alan Jackson concert.

The country music star will perform at the first major concert at the arena since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The most well-known artists are often employed in the entertainment industry. Hundreds of others who help at concerts can also return to work.

“It’s been a long time,” said Keith Boaz, executive director of JQH Arena. “When so many people depend on this industry as a source of income and have been without it since March 2020… it’s great for some of these people to finally be able to get back to work.”

It takes 40 to 80 stagehands to build the set before the artist even arrives at the venue. Tech crews, wardrobe managers, and merchandise vendors are just a few of the jobs required to get a show on the road.

When COVID-19 cases started to increase last year, those jobs were put on hold. Now that vaccination rates are on the rise, event venues can reopen their doors and rehire employees.

“We are delighted to reopen the doors and finally start to return to some kind of normalcy,” said Boaz. “We still have a long way to go on this. Vaccination is the key to all of this. So if you are not vaccinated and want to be able to attend events, vaccinations are the only way to get back to normal. “

To keep hosting big events, entertainment venues need people to follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.

“For this event, masking will be strongly encouraged, but not mandatory,” said Boaz. “We will have a lot of masks available for all customers who want to get one when they are here on site. We always have hand sanitizer all over the place. “

Since the City of Springfield lifted occupancy restrictions, there will be no socially distanced headquarters. The authorities ask that if you feel sick, stay home.
