ITV The Chase: Anne Hegerty breaks silence after Jeremy Clarkson admits having no idea who The Chase star

ITV’s The Chase is one of the most popular shows on television and has held the position since its debut in 2009.

While the show’s dramatic nature was the primary draw for audiences back home, it didn’t take long for charismatic host Bradley Walsh and the Five Hunters’ lineup to quickly establish themselves as household names.

Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, Anne Hegerty and new addition Darragh Ennis make up the iconic line-up.

However, there appears to be a very famous household where Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty’s name doesn’t seem to ring a bell and, in typical housekeeper fashion, she didn’t hesitate to express her opinion.

Jeremy Clarkson has hosted the show since its relaunch in 2018

Anne, who is otherwise known as The Governess, has been a regular at The Chase for a decade. The quiz expert reacted to Jeremy Clarkson after the former Top Gear host revealed he had no idea who she was.

The host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire made the confession after being put on the spot by candidate Archit Israni.

Anne has since reacted to his comment after the Grand Tour presenter was asked about his admission on Twitter.

The person in question wrote: “@JeremyClarkson Never heard of Anne Hegerty!?!?! Did you think it was worth a smug laugh? “

Looking at his 7.4 million followers, Jeremy replied, “I really didn’t have one. Or the other guy.”

Anne took the opportunity to respond to his comment, as the quiz admitted that she would like the opportunity to meet him.

“He’s probably far too busy to watch The Chase or Britain’s Brightest Family,” the housekeeper said, given her 152,000 subscribers.

Anne added: “Same fan, Jeremy, I love meeting you!”

It comes after a recent episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, where the contestant enlisted Jeremy for help.

The financial consultant was asked: “Since 2016, who has hosted the game show that requires teams of five to name items in the top 10 lists?”

The options were Warwick Davis, Phillip Schofield, Adil Ray and Anne Hegerty.

Viewers were shocked after Jeremy admitted he had no idea who Chase’s quizmaster was.

Jeremy was also confused to see Good Morning Britain’s Adil on the list – and he didn’t know him either.

He said: “I’ve never even heard of two of the people on this list – Adil Ray and Anne Hegerty.”

Viewers were stunned by Jeremy’s confession that he had never heard of the two TV personalities.

Speaking to social media, one said: “Jeremy Clarkson said he has never heard of Anne Hegerty.”

Another tweeted: “Jeremy Clarkson has never heard of Anne Hegerty!”

A third added: “Jeremy Clarkson has never heard of @anne_hegerty? #Shameful #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

“I swear I’ve never shouted so much on TV in my life as #whowantstobeamillionaire tonight,” commented a fourth.

Anne, better known as The Governess on The Chase, has been on screens for over 10 years.

She also hosts her own solo show Britain’s Brightest Family.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5 p.m. ET.
