This weekend, the Detroit media will do their part to help one of the charities they report on each year around this time – the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit – by participating in Celebrity Bell Ring Weekend.
More than 40 media figures representing the region’s television, radio and print media will work to raise funds for the nonprofit’s Red Kettle Christmas campaign from December 3-5.
Some will be doing their part online and others in front of Detroit area stores.
âThe sound of bells ringing in red kettles in stores is a real sign of the Christmas season and the Salvation Army is so happy to have the chance to return to donations in person while still maintaining the convenience of a online format, âsaid Major Timothy Meyer. , Secretary General and Commander of Metro Detroit (Regional Operations Manager) for the Eastern Michigan Division of the Salvation Army. “We are grateful for the continued support year after year and we are grateful for the support we receive from media celebrities who attend Bell Ring Weekend this year.”
Each volunteer will have their own peer-to-peer fundraising page, which acts as a virtual red kettle for donations, helping their neighbors in need with everything from clothes and gifts to holiday meals.
Keep an eye out for photos posted on social media sites and participate in the fun that comes with giving back and helping others in your community. At the end of the weekend, the top three philanthropic celebrities will receive trophies for their fundraising efforts.
