BBC Garden Rescue: Charlie Dimmock looked amazing when he first appeared on television in the 1990s


TV star Charlie Dimmock has been a gardening icon for decades and is instantly recognizable to many fans thanks to his luscious locks and impressive gardening knowledge.

The 54-year-old has been a staple of our TV screens since her debut in 1997, when she appeared as a Ground Force presenter – a role that lasted until 2004.

Garden Force debuted on BBC Two in September 1997, yes – it’s really been 24 years!

The show followed the team tasked with restoring and remaking the garden of an unsuspecting person who had been named by a friend or family.

The team, made up of Alan Titchmarsh, presenter and gardener Charlie Dimmock, builder Tommy Walsh and his assistant Will Shanahan who only had two days to turn the outdoor space into something wonderful.

In the show’s first promotional snapshot taken in 1997, the team poses in front of their Ground Force brand truck.

Still stripping off the same fiery red streaks to die for, Charlie crouches down and dons a bomber jacket emblazoned with the series logo.

She also wore a tight dark top paired with pants and a belt that scream in ’90s fashion!

The Garden Rescue host has since appeared on everything from Charlie’s Garden Army to Hollyoaks.

But she’s not just a pretty face and a gardening genius as she started her career studying horticulture at Chelsea Physic Garden, before landing her dream gig alongside Alan and Tommy.

Charlie has been the head of the BBC’s Garden Rescue since 2016 alongside Harry Rich and David Rich, in which they compete to design a stunning garden for a member of the public.

The show follows Charlie’s main transformation and creates fabulous gardens to suit homeowners’ space and budget across the UK.
