And Barry Humphries proved last week that he is still so sharp at 87 when he pretended to mistake a British TV presenter for his colleague who recently revealed his homosexuality.
The comedian, best known for his alter ego Dame Edna Everage, was interviewed on the ITV This Morning talk show when he praised stand-in host Dermot O’Leary for his “courage” to be out late in life. .
O’Leary is of course not gay: He was regular host Phillip Schofield who came out last year at the age of 57.

âBy the way, I want to seriously commend you for your courage,â Humphries told O’Leary, who has been married to his wife Dee Koppang since 2012.
He kept his face straight as co-host Alison Hammond burst out laughing and O’Leary looked somewhat confused.
Hammond continued to laugh as Humphries said, “Last year, no, no, when he went out and told us about his sexuality.”

O’Leary, realizing now what Humphries was doing, nodded and joined in the laughter.
âBecause I think a lot of people respected you for that,â the Australian continued.
“Thank you … I will pass this on to the gentleman who is here Monday through Thursday,” replied O’Leary.
Flawless: “I want to congratulate you, by the way, seriously, on your courage,” said Humphries, who kept his face straight as Hammond burst out laughing and O’Leary looked confused.
O’Leary’s response made Humphries come back with, âWhat? Before looking off camera with a confused expression.
âYour bravery was incredible,â he later added.
Viewers were quick to respond, with many saying they were in tears of laughter while others were confused as to whether this was a joke or a real blunder.
